English and Chinese bidirectional translation

CCPN Global's work are mainly voluntary based, see: Workplace; and people. However, we will pay for professional standard work at case by case basis. There are numbers of ways to get involved in English and Chinese bidirectional translation.

I. English and Chinese bidirectional translation for publications

1.  English and Chinese bidirectional translation for Journal of China in Comparative Perspective (JCCP), e.g.

2. English and Chinese bidirectional translation for books Global Century Press, e.g.

3. English and Chinese bidirectional translation bilingual websites and blogs:

II. Supervision of student

We supervise students globally to use our material for their practice, see arrangments below

1. Word limit:

  • Translate only the detailed summary of some Chinese and English articles, not the whole article (unless it is under 2,000 words).
  • If it is part of the translation essay, the required length of a source text (in English) is 2,000 words.
  • A student can choose to translate more than one text with the total number of words around 2,000.

2. Schedule: e.g. Term 1 (English into Chinese translation course)

  • The selected texts should be made available in November.
  • The translation essay will be submitted in mid January of the following year.
  • The teacher will check the translation essays.
  • The student will revise according to the suggested changes BEFORE the teacher decides whether the translation is good enough to be submitted to CCPN Global. This will take place in late January.

3. Number of students:

  • The teacher for English into Chinese translation course would let CCPN Global know the number of  who may be involved in the project.
  • This may take place in mid October.
  • The number is expected to be between 10 and 15.

4. Acknowledgment:

  • The translator can put his/her name at the end of the translation which may appear on the website.
  • The student translator could include this experience in his/her CV.
  • The website organisers may choose someone to do paid translation when necessary.

5. Standard:

  • As the translation may not be to a professional level, which is accepted by CCPN Global.
  • However, the translation, once uploaded to CCPN Global website, can be edited later for improvement. This flexibility would suit students.

6. Material:

  • CCPN Global is responsible for selecting the texts (i.e.. summaries of articles)
  • Students will be asked to select from them either as part of their assessed assignment (e.g.. Term 1 translation essay) or for voluntary practice.
